Turchi, Campfires & Constellations, The Openers

When: Thu., March 28, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $6

Turchi plays Americana. Maybe that sounds boring, because that's what so many bands do, but the tendency of most is to use Americana's elements before ferrying into rock 'n' roll, country rock or folk-rock. But Turchi digs in rather than builds up, exploring the neighboring roots of zydeco, slide blues and swamp boogie. What results is roadhouse stomp overlaid with harmonica and guitars, while project namesake Reed Turchi spins tales of love gone sour and hard drinkers gone drunk. Chapel Hill band Campfires and Constellations' roots-country grab bag mixes hard-times storytelling with acoustic instrumentation. Playing first is a band called The Openers. Ha! —Corbie Hill
