Triangle Brass Band

When: Sun., Feb. 23, 4 p.m. 2014
Price: $5-15

With a membership in the dozens and instrumentation in the British style (heavy on cornets, light on percussion), the Triangle Brass Band can take on anything from Giuseppe Verdi to Mel Tormé. In the latest installment of its "Partnership with Youth" series, the collective shares a concert with the UNC Wind Ensemble, which will perform pieces for wind band including Frank Ticheli's jazzy "Blue Shades" and John Mackey's modal "Strange Humors." But the highlight should arrive when NC Symphony trumpet player Tim Stewart joins the Triangle Brass Band as the featured soloist on Joseph Turrin's "Caprice." —Brian Howe
