Trevor Hall, Tubby Love

When: Thu., Sept. 3, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $17-$20
Reggae is as much a lifestyle as a genre. Born on South Carolina’s ritzy Hilton Head Island but now a California beach bum, Trevor Hall must have realized this, as he’s lost the “Ras Trent” vibes of his earliest albums. He’s now appropriating the sounds and spirituality of India, though, draping folk-pop treacle with sitar drones and tabla hits. There’s a spiritual streak in Hall’s music that’s begrudgingly admirable; clearly, Hall’s seeking something to grasp onto, though his attenuated songs suggest he’s yet to find it. —Patrick Wall
