Traces: Mapping a Journey in Textiles

When: Jan. 25-May 14 2011

Traces features 12 international artists working with the idea of place in their work, using unique materials and technology. A symposium will be held in conjunction with Traces March 24–26, examining using textiles as communicating life paths. Notable N.C. State artists participating include College of Design professors Vita Plume and Susan Brandeis, and Dean of the College of Textiles Blanton Godfrey. Also newly opened is The Pull of the Moon: Recent Work by Barbara Lee Smith. Smith, who also curated Traces, focuses on painting and collaging polyester nonwoven fabric for 3-D effects. Both exhibits run through May 14. —Sarah Ewald
