TOUR DE FAT

DIAMOND VIEW PARK, DURHAM | SATURDAY, JUNE 20

Bike-centric beermaker New Belgium rolls into town with its annual Tour de Fat, a traveling carnival of biking, special beer tappings, food, music, outlandish costumes and general revelry. Entertainment includes a bike parade, live music from Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, vaudeville acts, a 1,000-person dance contest and yo-yo trick masters. Ancillary activities include a battle of the bands at Motorco and a kickoff event in Raleigh; check New Belgium's website for details (you can even get a "carnie cut" if you want to prep your facial hair for the Tour). There is a serious side to the party—proceeds from sales of beer and other merch go to local nonprofits, and there is a car-for-bike swap where one person chosen by an application process receives support in becoming a bike commuter. But, mostly, it's all about having a good time. So dress up in your wildest costume, grab your bike and join the literal parade of fun. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., free, 318 Blackwell St., Durham, www.newbelgium.com/rdu. —Curt Fields
