Tough Love

When: Fri., July 18, 7:30 p.m. 2014
Price: Free
In Stephanie Wang-Breal's first feature-length documentary, Wo Ai Ni Mommy, the Brooklyn-based director trained her camera on the international adoption of a Chinese girl by an American family. In her new film, Tough Love, Wang-Breal returns to themes of adoption and family, focusing on two parents, Patrick from Seattle and Hannah from New York, who have been separated from their children by the state. Intimate, vérité-style footage chronicles their attempts to confront past mistakes and prove to child-welfare courts that they deserve a second chance at parenthood. The film premiered at Full Frame in April; this screening is free but requires a reservation via —Will Partin
