Toubab Krewe, John Brown's Body

When: Thu., Nov. 29, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $14.50-18

The multicultural thrust of Asheville's Toubab Krewe seems to be guided by one idea: fun. This eclectic jam outfit draws from African music, Oriental styles, the blues and more, keying on the brightest, most energetic melodies these styles have to offer. Incorporating African percussion beyond the clichéd bongo and the prickling notes of the harp-like kora, the Krewe grounds its far-flung explorations with a groove-centered approach that maintains a steady, driving bass line regardless of whatever unorthodox instrumentation the group is utilizing. John Brown's Body lends support with a similarly worldly style complicated by stylish electronic influences. Tickets to the 8 p.m. show are $14.50 in advance, $18 day of show. —Jordan Lawrence
