Toro Y Moi, Keath Mead

When: Tue., May 12, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $18-$20
Chaz Bundick isn’t one to repeat himself. As Toro Y Moi, he’s jumped from insular chillwave (Causers of This) to bachelor pad pop (Underneath the Pine) to fuck-jam funk (Anything in Return). What For?, Toro Y Moi’s fourth full-length, indulges a guitar-heavy approach that reaches back to AM Gold-style pop and sprightly disco. Though it’s a charming springtime listen, it’s slighter than tourmate Keath Mead’s Sunday Dinner. Where What For? is pleasant, the Bundick-produced Sunday Dinner is actually pleasing, with power-pop curveballs and pretty folk garlands that challenge and comfort. —Patrick Wall
