Torche (Back Room)

When: Mon., Sept. 29, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $15
The Florida band Torche—who make thick, down-tuned heavy metal that sounds like radio rock with bigger forearms—arrives on its 10th anniversary tour. They’ve only made three albums in that time, but given a string of singles and EPs, that figure can seem a bit deceiving. Some of their best material has never made it to a full-length. What’s more, Torche’s sound has always been an extension of Floor, the earlier band of frontman Steve Brooks. Floor reunited last year for a new LP, indirectly building both Torche’s body of work and suggesting that Brooks’ brilliant sense of melody had been at work long before he took the Torche family name. —Grayson Haver Currin
