Tony Raver, Phil Venable

When: Tue., Nov. 26, 10 p.m. 2013
Tony T. Raver fronts Salt to Bitters, an emotionally charged Chapel Hill folk-punk band that has been inactive of late; the lifelong musician soldiers on here with one-man rants. Raver's liquored-up, last-call laments cast dark shadows, though they don't fully cloak his vulnerable confessions. Phil Venable has decided to end his simply named The Venables since the passing of his co-conspirator, local drummer Matt Brown; he also appears solo, bringing meat-and-potatoes rock accompanied by hints of '80s college rock and punk spirit. —Spencer Griffith
