Tony Bennett, Antonia Bennett

When: Fri., Feb. 1, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $69-89

For more than 60 years, Tony Bennett has espoused a steadfast vision. He's resisted the call of the trendy and new, opting to stick with the alternately intimate and swinging pop standards that best serve the broad range of his instrument. During rock's ascendency, he almost singlehandedly kept jazz and the American Songbook alive, recording with the likes of Art Blakey, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. After being buffeted by the music-biz tides, Bennett began his rise to national treasure status in the early '90s, when his duets with younger artists brought the Queens-born crooner to a new generation of listeners. Since then, he's gathered Grammys in great numbers, earned Kennedy Center Honors and gained universal respect. Restlessly artistic, Bennett has excelled as a painter and an author, too, but it's the song stylist and charmer who will be on display at DPAC. Odds are good that he'll break out his signature number—the one about San Francisco, which camped out on the charts for nine months in 1962, before the Beatles came, and when the world was young. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show run $69–89. Antonia Bennett, Tony's daughter, opens. Visit —David Klein
