Tommy Castro and the Pain Killers, Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos

When: Tue., Nov. 3, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $14.50-$20
For most of his career, Tommy Castro stayed on his native left coast, but a recent packed show with Tab Benoit and Samantha Fish at the Lincoln Theatre must have opened his mind to more Carolina visits. The San Francisco-based singer and guitarist sounds like Delbert McClinton with Wilson Pickett’s panther scream and Otis’ gritty soul. Castro’s guitar howls as soulfully as his vocals. His latest with his band Painkillers, Method to My Madness, is a smooth blend of blues and soul. —Grant Britt
