Tomahawks, Cotton Jones

When: Thu., Jan. 20, 10 p.m. 2011
Price: Free
The Tomahawks' spirited, rootsy soul-rock warms up the vintage vibe with chipper riffs, bouncy keys and washed-out harmonies. Tonight they're the local anchor for Local Band/Local Beer night, as country-weeper aesthetes Cotton Jones come from Maryland. The band features Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw (formerly of folk-pop darling Page France), who fuse lo-fi warble with chamber pop ambition to dreamy affect; they're as likely to make you wistful for back porch sittin' as to make you remember some lonesome spell of midnight brooding. The 10 p.m. show is free. —Ashley Melzer
