Tom Browne

When: Sat., May 30, 8 p.m. 2015
The 1980 hit of jazz trumpeter Tom Browne, “Funkin’ for Jamaica (N.Y.),” defined sophisticated R&B funk for a spell. After topping the Billboard charts, he sailed into a career as a commercial pilot for a time. The R&B hitmaker returned to music in 1996 with a traditional jazz album. He now cuts vapor trails across both genres with his solo act. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
