To Sir, With Love

When: Tue., March 15, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: Free
N.C. State presents "Schooling the Sixties," a collection of education-themed films from that decade which focus on social tumult. Up this time is To Sir, With Love, one of Sidney Poitier's several hits from 1967, along with In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? But this is the only one with a #1-hit title song by Lulu, darn it. Poitier plays Mark Thackeray, who schools the toughest British teens known to man, perhaps as a karmic payback for his own delinquency in 1955's The Blackboard Jungle. The screening is co-sponsored by NCSU Film Studies and the Campus Cinema; it starts at 7 p.m. and is free. —Zack Smith
