Re: “Cities fight bill to limit broadband

This is yet another example of the ways the phone and cable companies preach "deregulation and competition" while practicing the opposite. It has been the standard of the phone and cable giants to strong arm legislators to pass laws that stifle choice and innovation. For all their talk about deregulation, their lobbyists work aggressively behind the scenes to force through regulations, to protect their market monopolies and duopolies, stifle new entrants and competitive technologies in the marketplace, and increase their control over the content that travels over the Web. This North Carolina legislation is a glaring example of their fundamental hypocrisy. If passed it will turn place the state at a massive disadvantage and further distance people from the vast economic and social benefits of getting connected.
