Titus Andronicus

When: Nov. 5-21 2015

So many stories of women go untold, onstage and in our culture. Accounts that measure the depths of women's anger are among the least told of all. It's almost as if we were scared of something. Titus Andronicus is one of Shakespeare's most violent works, depicting a world where the ignoble acts of those in power provoke a bloodbath of retribution. "It really is about characters going after one another only for their own desires or purely for revenge," notes director Heather J. Strickland. "When you're looking at that kind of conflict between women, it's a different story." This all-female production from Bare Theatre uses Titus to examine the ways women undermine one another, with the purpose of discerning how to reduce that dynamic in our culture. Rebecca Blum is Titus and Aneisha Montague plays her nemesis, Aaron. 8 p.m., $18, 4815-B Hillsborough Road, Durham,
