Re: “Swoops felled: RailHawks selling mascot, name, everything on eBay, Craiglist

Sad if true, but I am hoping for the best. As a longtime Triangle resident, I have seen minor league teams like the Senators (remember Deveraux Field) to various other American football, basketball (Carolina Cougars, Raleigh Frogs), and even indoor soccer come and go. But you would think with CASL here the fan base would be sufficient to keep a team like the Railhawks alive.

I did venture out and see the invitation only Railhawks (RH) try out games held a couple of weeks ago. While you could tell the caliber of the invited try out players were on par with previous RH teams, the surprise was the skill of the opponent teams, in the CASL U18 and Elite Teams. In both games the score was 1-0, with U-18 losing and the Elite squad taking a win over the try out team in the second game. Personally I would pay a little to see either of these CASL teams play. And perhaps that could be part of the problem. While CASL may offer a fan base, it also provides an educated soccer fan that knows you can see high level soccer in Triangle without the RH.
