Tim Eriksen & the Trio de Pumpkintown, Laurelyn Dossett

When: Fri., Oct. 4, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $7-15
Listening to Tim Eriksen's lonesome fiddle, one can imagine standing on a fog-shrouded Irish shoreline staring at a spot on the horizon that feels as close as the moon and yet as far away. Some know Eriksen as the shaven-pated leader of Cordelia's Dad, which, like Fairport Convention, applied electricity to traditional folk. Begun in the late '80s, they dabbled in prickly postpunk distortion, though later albums became much more traditional. That's the direction Eriksen's taken with his solo albums, which possess the haunting simplicity of Will Oldham's early Palace Brothers albums but with much better singing. He's joined by his Trio de Pumpkintown. Greensboro singer-songwriter Laurelyn Dossett opens. —Chris Parker
