Re: “Raleigh Mayoral Candidate Francis Received $20,600 in Donations from Antigay Former Senator Fred J. Smith, Smith's Wife, and Two of His Sons

BlackRaleigh, FYI, the $20k plus the Smith family gave Mr. Francis all came in 2017. He didn't run for office in 2008. Trg

Re: “Muslim Raleigh City Council Candidate Zainab Baloch Says Defacement of Her Sign Won't Stop Her Campaign

Correction: I mistakenly attributed to Paul Blest the statement made by Linzie Washington about the defacement of Ms. Baloch's sign.
My apologies to Paul.
The questions in that post now go to Linzie Washington.

Re: “Muslim Raleigh City Council Candidate Zainab Baloch Says Defacement of Her Sign Won't Stop Her Campaign

Mr. Blest,
Do you have reliable data that backs up your claim that "the majority of these types of cases usually end up to be self inflicted to further an agenda"?
Are you aware of any such incident in the Triangle?
I'm aware that there have been such cases, but it's extremely irresponsible to make such a claim unless you have verifiable proof. The reason the fake hate crimes get wide publicity is that they are rare.

Re: “Mayor McFarlane Will Not Be Turned Away from Democratic Party Events, Spokesman Says

I have played music a few times in an informal group that includes Ron McFarlane, along with two of my cousins, and about 10 other people, in a few rehearsals and at a couple of benefits. I have twice been to the McFarlanes' home to hear musical performances.
That's it. No Christmas cards, personal emails, lunches, calls re anything except those to the mayor on matters of journalistic concerns (none to Mr. McFarlane), no gifts, nothing, nada.
Mr FONcitizen, if you are willing to use your real name, shoot me an email at tgoldsmith@indyweek.com or call me at 919-812-5308 for any other questions. I can fill you in on the journalistic and ethical practices I have faithfully followed during 33 years in this business.

Re: “You Can Now Go Drink at RDU on Sunday Mornings

My practice is to reflect the diverse views of Indy readers, many of whom are church-goers.
Many are also dacquiri drinkers, but you can read about them in those other news outlets.
