Re: “Smoking ban 1, Hookah Bliss 0

Let's be honest, it's getting hard to find a rep worth voting for. I can't get a dyed in the wool liberal or conservative elected without finding out later they don't intend to leave you free. No one has ever forced a bar patron to stay in a smoky bar. If smoking was bothering someone they could ask the guy to stop or leave. Management should always decide what answers for acceptable behavior indoors and frankly, anyone who wants you to stop smoking to protect you is an idiot. Anyone who takes a drag knows the risks and once again, quite frankly, this country was not built on social responsibility. It was conceived and supposedly buttressed by the cause of individual liberty. Real freedom. Not freedom to avoid taxes, but freedom to tell your neighbor he can go to hell and hopefully leave you in peace. We're not talking about a business leaking gasoline into your groundwater. We're talking about a large group of people wanting to smoke and another group oppressing them quite directly with legislation, which has power to do the public good sure, but what's next? Soft drinks? Non cotton fabric? Pickup trucks and suvs? they are big and dangerous, and no one is forcing you to drive on public roads with transfer trucks. Limiting smoking in bars is pure idiocy and the second the democratic party gets back to being the party of freedom , someone will vote for one again, or maybe even raise their heads to defend one of the sorry sobs. And that may be offensive to someone, but you can only hope in a country or COUNTY supposedly transfixed on the subject of liberty there is someone sobbing into their cornflakes over speech too. Second hand smoke is for folks who hang out and hanging out is a choice. Maybe after the pubs take this crap down, and it's comin fellas, because none of us will run the real thing, they'll get down to business and fire most of the DEA and ALE as well. Let someone raise a kid huh? Free strollers for good boys and girls at the Heatlth Department, huh? I'd rather crawl free. You should too.
Furthermore I remember the cloud of smoke that rolled out of the Cradle my first trip over there and there was a certain romance to it. Now that's all gone. Venues feel cheap and well swept, even. It makes me sick to think we've been herded onto back decks over a few burns and deep breaths. There's more cancer in a jelly donut than 2 seconds of second hand smoke, but the streets will be next, and then the coca cola tax. Mark these words, whoever's laughin, they'll take away your jelly donut next decade. Cheers.
