Theater of the American South

When: May 15-27 2013
Price: $10-$20
In its eighth season, this annual compendium of theater, culture and cuisine treats audiences to differing views and tastes of the South. Now under new management, the festival seems to be changing focus and scaling back on its main stage offerings. Instead of local performers, the festival turns to a Manteo group, Elizabeth R & Company, for its Portrait of Patsy Cline, opening Thursday. When we saw Peter Neofotis, adapt his novel, Concord, Virginia, as a one-person show in 2010, he still needed more seasoning as a performer; starting Saturday he'll do Return to Concord. Lectures and cooking classes accompany these two-week runs. —Byron Woods
