The World Is a Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, LVL UP, Brother Beast

When: Tue., Oct. 29, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-10
The Connecticut octet with the ridiculously long name marries post-rock dynamics and kitchen-sink indie instrumentation to classic emo. Please don't let that last word repel you: The ensemble's intensity—yes, that means there's an occasional scream-along vocal—is undeniable. The feeling fuels twisted, tightly arranged tunes that are just as likely to build patiently and dramatically as they are to burst through quick chord changes. Unexpected combinations of cello, trumpet and piano bolster the bravado. LVL UP and Brother Beast open. —Spencer Griffith
