The Wood Brothers, Chris Casper

When: Wed., Oct. 16, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $15-18
Though Oliver and Chris Wood were raised in Colorado and now live in Nashville, North Carolina played a key role in their band's origins. It was in Winston-Salem about a decade ago when Oliver's band, King Johnson, shared a bill with Medeski, Martin and Wood, for whom Chris played bass. Before long, the siblings had teamed up as the Wood Brothers. They released albums for Universal affiliate Blue Note before moving to Nashville's Southern Ground label. The Muse, released last week, was produced by Americana master Buddy Miller and showcases their blend of folk, blues and funk with a tinge of gospel flair. —Peter Blackstock
