THE WHO

& JOAN JETT

PNC ARENA, RALEIGH

TUESDAY, APRIL 21

In the span of three months, two of the most legendary and long-running rock 'n' roll enterprises, The Who and The Rolling Stones, will play N.C. State's biggest athletic facilities. The Who, who crossed the half-century mark last year, arrive first for a relatively modest and affordable arena show, part of an indefinite trek that Roger Daltrey unequivocally claims will be their last. And why not depart with some dignity, half the original band still alive and a catalogue of hits that seems to self-propagate thanks to marquee television placements? For these shows, The Who are largely delivering the smashes as if on shuffle. During recent back-to-back nights at London's O2 Arena, they played a 23-song set that provided the standards—"My Generation" and "Magic Bus," "The Seeker" and "Substitute," "Baba O' Riley" and "Behind Blue Eyes"—one after the other in alternating orders. Strangely enough, they've omitted their most recent, rather good and perhaps final song, "Be Lucky," from these shows. Daltrey, Townshend and their backing band of famous sons are making an effort, it seems, to give people what they actually want one final time. Joan Jett steps up from her recent Dorton Arena gig at the N.C. State Fair to open. 7:30 p.m., $39.50–$139.50, 1400 Edwards Mill Road, Raleigh, 919-861-2300, www.thepncarena.com.—Grayson Haver Currin
