The Violet Ball

When: Sat., Feb. 16, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-15

Whether you're looking to drink away your loneliness or celebrate with your sweetheart post-Valentine's Day, check out The Violet Ball for a debauched, purple-tinted night. What begins as a pub crawl and procession down Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh will culminate with a performance at Southland Ballroom by the local burlesque troupe VaudeVillain Revue. Meka La Crème, Porcelain and Purrrl Van Dammit (these names!) will fuse circus arts and belly dancing, and chanteuse Virginia Scare will provide live music and play her "magical ukelele." Expect to see hula hoops, magicians and acrobats—and be sure to wear your favorite shade of violet. The crawl begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Flower, 517 W. Peace St.; the show at the Southland, 614 N. West St., begins at 11 p.m. —Emma Miller
