The Sword, Ruby The Hatchet, Lightning Born

When: Mon., Sept. 26, 8 p.m. 2016
Price: $16
On its fifth album, last year’s High Country, Austin, Texas, doom crew The Sword flipped the script. Rather than tread familiar Sabbath territory, the band expanded its palette to embrace more Thin Lizzy boogie, rangy Southern rock, slick hard rock, and even some Goblin-esque prog. High Country is still a decidedly retro hard rock record, but the more freewheeling approach suits the band. Its revival sounds much more lively. —Bryan C. Reed
