The Stepfather

When: Wed., July 11, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5.50

Let us speak in praise of Terry O'Quinn, that great character actor whose steely presence can be noble, lovable, heartbreaking and effing scary. If you only know his work on Lost as the enigmatic would-be warrior John Locke, you must head to this screening of 1987's The Stepfather. Written by the great crime novelist Donald Westlake, it's the film that made O'Quinn's reputation. He stars as a serial killer who assumes a new identity and becomes a family man ... and gets very, very upset when his new family doesn't measure up to his high standards. Ignore the dreadful sequels and the remake from a few years back and enjoy a performance acclaimed for O'Quinn's ability to play bland suburban and psycho killer in equal measure. —Zack Smith
