The Old Ceremony, Ryan Gustafson

When: Thu., July 29, 6 p.m. 2010
Price: Free

Purveyors of playful and pensive pop perform on a perfectly pleasant plaza, pro bono—or something like that. Headed by Django Haskins, The Old Ceremony adds vibraphone and violin to the traditional rock trio, allowing songs to transform into shifty, off-kilter cabaret or grand orchestrations. Sonically and lyrically, the band's taken a turn for darkness in the past few years, but this remains the act that wrote the groovy, piano-jangling "Papers in Order." One listen and it's in your head for a week. Soul-tinged roots rocker Ryan Gustafson opens. Listen for the music on top of the parking deck just off Franklin Street. —Andrew Ritchey
