The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein

When: Dec. 7-12 2010
Price: $20-up

For those who hear the words "Frau Blücher" and automatically hear a horse neighing in the background, this is your musical. Mel Brooks adapted his 1974 film of the same name into a musical that has been touring the nation. The story, for those just joining our popular culture, is of young Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (or "Fronkensteen," as he would rather have it pronounced), who lectures at a medical school and is insistent on forgetting the legacy bequeathed him by his infamous grandfather. He is fairly successful until a solicitor informs him of his inheritance: his grandfather's estate in Transylvania. He travels there to inspect the property and meets the curvaceous Inga (who becomes his assistant), Frau Blücher and the humpbacked Igor (or "Eye-gor"). To see the film adapted into a musical is no doubt a sight to behold, even if you're an inspector who has an eye patch and a monocle over the same eye. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7–9, 8 p.m. Dec. 10–11, and 6:30 p.m. Dec 12, with matinees at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 and 1 p.m. Dec 12. Tickets start at $20.—Lauren Shute
