Duke theater professor Neal Bell adapts the oddball 1908 novel by G.K. Chesterson for this new production by Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern. Chesterson's tale, a thriller-comedy subtitled "A Nightmare," is a bizarre, absurdist non-mystery about a man who enters a society of anarchists, each named for a day of the week, as he conceals a deadly secret ... only to discover that all the other members have their own deadly secrets, and that their leader, Sunday, has the biggest secret of all. Suffice to say, you will not guess his true identity.

The original work has a bizarre, propulsive energy, filled with scenes of action and philosophical discussion in equal measure, parodying the type of mystery tale for which Chesterson was best known. It has a unique fan base: Orson Welles adapted it for the Mercury Theatre shortly before his infamous War of the Worlds broadcast, Neil Gaiman created a fake "sequel" in the dream-library of unwritten books, and most infamously, Irish revolutionary leader Michael Collins used a few bits of its philosophy as a personal guide. This new adaptation is entirely performed by women dressed as men, which is only appropriate to the seemingly infinite double-crosses of the tale. —Zack Smith
