Though The Love Language played a big gig on New Year’s Eve for First Night Raleigh, it’s still surprising to see their name on an ordinary weekend club bill. The boisterous pop-belters have slowed considerably since the 2013 release of the distracted Ruby Red, even selling their longtime touring vehicle. Frontman Stu McLamb has a new metal band, too. Still, the hooks of the best Love Language tunes hold, and they’re in excellent company tonight. The restless Outer Banks import Zack Mexico open, along with local psychedelic explorers No Eyes. —Grayson Haver Currin
