The Lollipops, Casual Curious

When: Sun., May 26, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

Raleigh's Lollipops and Greensboro's Casual Curious create music that overflows with energy, but their methods vary drastically. The Lollipops are an assured pop-rock band with aggressively buoyant melodies that contrast the often dark lyrics of singer Iggy Cosky. Building from the fuzzy nuggets found on Cosky's self-recorded albums, his band energizes his lo-fi exuberance into something explosive. With its complex melodies and brash genre fusions, Casual Curious exists in the same space as TV on the Radio. Sheeny synthesizers and dance-inducing rhythms merge with tangled Afro-pop melodies courtesy of guitar and saxophone. —Jordan Lawrence
