The Lighthouse And The Whaler, Keeps (Back Room)

When: Sun., Oct. 4, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $12-$14
Cleveland’s The Lighthouse and The Whaler sound like they should hail from the Pacific Northwest or, at least, a vibrant coastal city. Their sparkling pop doesn’t suggest much Midwestern grit. Instead, their new album, Mount Royal, shoots for soaring indie sounds with big strings and choruses. While enjoyable, at times their music is indistinct, making it difficult to find reasons to recommend them over a trove of similar acts. —Justin Weber
