The Light Pines, Kid Future

When: Thu., April 22, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: $0

Despite solid bookings, WKNC's Local Beer Local Band series recently has been woefully underattended—likely because of the spate of touring bands rolling through. Remember, these shows are free, offering a opportunity to sample rising and established Triangle acts.

Enough with the soapbox: Upstarts The Light Pines have been gaining momentum since splintering from The Love Language earlier this year. Helmed by bassist Josh Pope, the Love Language refugees and their Drughorse pals command their own spotlight with dramatic pop splendor. Tonight, they headline. Kid Future—Mount Weather's Bryan Costello, ex-Tola and the World bandmate Robert Fisher and pal Kevin Donnelly—is so wet behind the ears, it has just a single track online: "Like A Camera" suggests Future Islands on Quaaludes and references Bon Iver's "Flume" in the opening line. —Spencer Griffith
