The King Khan & BBQ Show, Milk Lines (Back Room)

When: Tue., Nov. 10, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $13-$15
With an on-again, off-again collaboration that has now passed the decade mark, King Khan and BBQ, or Mark Sultan, have built a catalog of hooky, ramshackle pop. They borrow from doo-wop harmony and garage rock primitivism. This year’s Bad News Boys hews fastidiously to that same mix. Tracks like “Alone Again” and “Kiss My Sister’s Fist” manage teen-idol melodrama inside bare-bones arrangements. Even when they detour toward rockabilly on “Snackin’ After Midnight” or punk on “Killing the Wolfman,” the band’s retro affectations shine through the budget-rock production. —Bryan C. Reed
