THE KIDS IN THE HALL

DURHAM PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, DURHAM

FRIDAY, MAY 8

A hypersexual chicken lady, a cigar-smoking cabbage and a gent named Mr. Tyzik who went around "crushing your head" are just a few of the characters that inspired feverish devotion to the five-season long TV show from sketch troupe The Kids in the Hall. The kids—Scott Thompson, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, Bruce McCulloch and Dave Foley—created surreal laugh-out-loud bits that fans still quote two decades later. Of course, they were performing live on stage years before injecting television with their quirky mix of monologues, drag and meta references, which influenced a generation of comedians who followed. Now all five members are reunited for their first tour in six years, performing new material and a few classic bits from the TV series. It's a show that 30 Helens agree should not be missed. 8 p.m., $50–$75, 123 Vivian St., Durham, 919-688-3722, www.dpacnc.com. —Curt Fields
