The Importance of Being Earnest

The Importance of Being Earnest

When: Wed., Oct. 12, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $26-30

The Aquila Theatre is back for its 10th appearance in the Center Stage series, this time with Oscar Wilde's classic comedy The Importance of Being Earnest. An all-British cast treats Wilde's meticulously crafted play with the English wit and subtext that sometimes escapes American stagings. Earnest is about Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing, two men so steeped in ennui they will stop at nothing to add a dash of spice to their starchy lives. Their invented alter egos are called to life when romance begins to blossom, and they tie themselves up in double Windsor knots to get out of it. Tickets to the 8 p.m. show are $26, with discounts for N.C. State faculty, staff and students. There's a pre-show discussion with a member of Aquila at 7 p.m. in the Walnut Room. —Christina Cass
