Ewa Cybulski (Marion Cotillard) and her sister sail from Poland to New York in search of the American dream, but they get separated at Ellis Island, leaving one sister lost in Manhattan and the other in a medical quarantine. Ewa is forced into prostitution by Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix), but his stage magician brother Orlando (Jeremy Renner) just might be her savior.
