The Hurt Locker and The Blind Side

When: Fri., July 9, 9 p.m. and Sat., July 10, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $4

The N.C. Museum of Art screens two of this year's most controversial Oscar winners over two nights. Tonight there's The Hurt Locker, which provoked criticism from Iraq veterans for its lack of verisimilitude, as well as inside-baseball wrangling over producer and writing credits—and because of people who complain that "some film where nothing happens" won best picture over Avatar. Then, on Saturday, it's The Blind Side, which was controversial with critics who found themselves knee-deep in debates with friends and family over whether it was a great feel-good film or a white-liberal guilt number that glossed over the deeper aspects of Michael Lewis' book. —Zack Smith
