The Honey Dewdrops, Smokey and the Mirror

When: Fri., Aug. 14, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $10-$14
There’s nothing wrong with The Honey Dewdrops’ Tangled Country. Both armed with an acoustic guitar, Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish deliver 10 sweet acoustic tunes. Their harmonies are pretty, and their picking and strumming are pleasant. But nothing quite sticks, either. You could argue their country isn’t tangled enough—not messy enough to warrant rejection, but too straightforward to hold your interest for more than one spin. Smokey and the Mirror, the wife-husband duo of Bernice and Bryan Hembree, open with tunes that are more Americana amalgamations than bluegrass relics. —Allison Hussey
