The Harmed Brothers

The Harmed Brothers, Tom VandenAvond

When: Fri., Nov. 23, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: Free

Like The Avett Brothers during their Ramseur Records days, Oregon's The Harmed Brothers manage to be alternately raucous and sweet while shoehorning bluegrass instrumentation into harmony-heavy folk-rock tunes. The group's songwriting duo has enough melodic oomph to keep listeners around for sharp, simple lyricism that's capable of couching potential cheese, so it resonates rather than repels. Austin singer-songwriter and tour mate Tom VandenAvond opens; his raw and well-worn vocals are the most striking feature of his excellent Dylanesque folk tunes. The 8 p.m. show is free. —Spencer Griffith
