The Great Cover Up

When: Jan. 16-18 2014
Price: $8

Did the holidays seem incomplete this year, like some bit of merriment had disappeared but you couldn't identify it? Maybe that feeling stemmed from the absence of The Great Cover Up, the annual multi-day celebration where local musicians take their turns parroting their favorite (and, occasionally, least-favorite) group with sometimes heavily rehearsed and costumed sets. Due to a scheduling snafu, the celebration that's typically reserved for December got pushed into 2014, meaning it's been more than a year since they've played dress up at Kings. This is the 12th year of The Great Cover Up, a tradition strong enough to survive the years where Kings went dark. Full-time bands have been born during these parties, and childhood fantasies of seeing Oasis in a small club have been sort of realized. As always, this year's lineup is hush-hush, so show up to be let in on the secrets. —Grayson Haver Currin
