The Gaslight Anthem, Northcote, The Scandals

When: Wed., March 4, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $22-$25
“Stay Vicious,” the first song from the fifth album by the half-punk, half-Springsteen outfit The Gaslight Anthem, oscillates between choruses worthy of stadium conquerors like U2 and stoner riffs that rival early Mastodon. The rest of the record is similarly scattershot, the work of a band that can’t decide if it wants to be Kings of Leon or the next Replacements. It’s a testament to Gaslight Anthem’s chops and catchiness that such over-ambition is kind of charming. —Jordan Lawrence
