The Figure - in Oil, Encaustic and Sculpture

When: April 25-June 22 2014
There is the body, an anatomical, living fact, and then there is the figure, which places the body in context. In this exhibit, Alicia Armstrong's oil paintings, Molly Cliff-Hilts' encaustic paintings and Tinka Jordy's ceramic sculptures all present different colors of lyrical figuration. With a surreal tint, Armstrong's work implies wishes or aspirations, while Cliff-Hilts uses a similar approach to illuminate internal landscapes. Meanwhile, Jordy resolves the internal and external in sculptures that seem to express a joyful acceptance of the wonders of reality. After this opening reception, the show is on view through June 22. —Chris Vitiello
