The End of the Ocean, Lost Trail

When: Mon., March 25, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: Donations

There's something incredibly indirect about The End of the Ocean's post-rock, though maybe that feeling is only a result of the mode in which they work. Post-rock at its best is a transcendent form, and modern favorites such as Caspian do well to compose engaging, propulsive tracks that, while vocal-less, lack nothing; at its worst, it is merely a journey from a whisper to a shout and back again. The End of the Ocean doesn't commit the cardinal sin of plundering Mono or Mogwai's bags of tricks, but they seem to be building their own path from quiet to loud. Right now, it's as if all of the Ohio band's ever-rising drama exists in a vacuum. Burlington's prolific Lost Trail opens with murmuring drone. —Corbie Hill
