Let's take a moment to think about Hollywood's representation of nuns. They're either repressing sexual urges, suffering from stigmata, having visions of the Virgin Mary or rebelling against Mother Superior by cavorting on an Alpine mountainside. Indeed, these wimpled women are irresistible fodder for parody, and that's just what Charles Busch (of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom fame) has created in The Divine Sister, playing in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre. Mother Superior (local actor Tony Hefner in drag) is on a mission to build a new school for her convent, but that's just a narrative pretense for bawdy satire. —Emma D. Miller
