The Districts, Lady Lamb, Sun Club

When: Sat., Oct. 31, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $15
The Districts, out of Pennsylvania, headline this Halloween shindig at Cat’s Cradle. Their twang-flecked rock is fine, but opener Lady Lamb deserves top billing. Aly Spaltro dropped the back half of her original band name (Lady Lamb the Beekeeper) for this year’s After, a more straightforward collection of songs than 2013’s excellent Ripely Pine. Spaltro’s songwriting is dense, verbose and thoughtful, and she counters the words with crunchy guitar parts on songs like “Vena Cava” and “Batter.” “Heretic” opens with howling riffs, while “Billions of Eyes” moves ahead with a sweet and bright chorus. Across After, Spaltro speaks to the joys and anxieties of existing as a young woman in the modern age, giving a welcome and wonderful voice to the possibilities and perils. —Allison Hussey
