The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle: Bach and His Children, Old and New

When: Sun., Oct. 11, 3 p.m. 2015
Price: $25
Johann Sebastian Bach had 20 children, many of whom went on to be composers in their own right. Here, the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle explores two of those children and a third, more cosmic descendent. From the Bachs themselves, we get a suite, a sinfonia and a symphony from, respectively, J.S., Johann Christian and Carl Philipp Emanuel. Duke University composition professor Stephen Jaffe conducts a new arrangement of his HIP Concerto. Originally composed for the Mallarmé Chamber Players, the piece riffs around J.S.’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, with Jaffe’s sense of humor and broad palette on full display. —Dan Ruccia
