The Carrack First Birthday

When: Sat., May 26, 2-11 p.m. 2012
Price: Free

They said it couldn't be done: a no-commission art gallery in downtown Durham. And yet The Carrack Modern Art gallery nonetheless celebrates its first year of bucking convention with a daylong birthday party in its fecund space. Combining a high-energy exhibition pace with a collaborative fervor, the Carrack has become an integral space for the visual, film and performative arts in the Bull City. Bring your art materials and visual work at 2 p.m. to participate in a community art-making session and open hanging. The party shifts into a more festive gear at 7 p.m. with food, wine and live music. Admission is free. —Chris Vitiello
